How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
