FAQ
What happens to my film if it doesn't do well in the box office?
A film that does poorly at the box-office could lead to many problems.
You might want to change the marketing of your film.
The script might be rewritten.
Third, you might consider adding characters.
Fourth, you may decide to remove certain characters.
Fifth, you might choose to cut scenes.
Sixth: You might decide the film was not worth making.
Why is Hollywood so famous?
D.W. Griffith established the first film industry in California, 1887. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.
Because it was so exciting to visit, the name stuck. It was a place that people would travel from all walks of the globe to experience.
Hollywood is an important part of culture today. We have movies. There are also music videos. Commercials. These are all known as Hollywood.
Which percentage of the box offices goes to marketing budgets and what is their share?
Marketing budgets usually account for anywhere from 20%-40% of a film's budget. Because marketing is vital to any film's success,
Without effective marketing, no one will be able to find out about your film. No one will pay for your film if they don't know about it.
Do foreign sales make Hollywood more than domestic sales?
Yes, but it is only slightly. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. Domestic revenues accounted for 83%.
More than half of the world’s population lives in foreign markets.
This means that even those who have never seen a movie at their home, many will still be interested in your movie.
Why is it that so few independent films are ever released?
Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.
But this is rare. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.
They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.
They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.
Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.
They don't wish to lose those profits.
What is the difference of a producer and distributor?
Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. The distributor distributes the movie. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. Then they sell them to theaters, cable channels, or streaming services.
Distributors have to negotiate with theater owners over where their movies should play. This can mean that different theaters may charge different prices for a movie. If you want your movie to be seen by as many people as possible, you should choose a distributor with many theaters.

How To
How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.
The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.
Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.
How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?
One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. A star can be renominated after 10 years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.
Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?
The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
