FAQ

What is the difference in an indie film and one made in a foreign language?

A single filmmaker usually makes an independent film. He or she makes all the decisions.

However, foreign language films are typically produced by a larger production group.

They often hire writers and actors from other nations.

They also hire professional translators so that the dialogue sounds natural.

Do I have the right to start my own distribution firm?

No. It is illegal to legally run a distribution business without being a distributor.

You must follow certain rules, even though you are not distributing films of other people.

You cannot charge different prices to different theaters. You can't charge different fees for different customers.

You also can't sell your services to other companies.

What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?

The movie is produced by a producer. The movie is distributed through a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.

How To

How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will vary depending on how long ago you were nominated. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old must one be to get a HWOF star

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why can't people choose to use a different street than having stars all over the place?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
