FAQ

Why are there so few independent films that get released?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.

But this is rare. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.

They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.

They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.

Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.

They don’t want to miss out on these profits.

Why aren't more filmmakers using crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding sites are great because they allow you to reach out directly to potential investors.

However, most filmmakers do not believe they are qualified to request money. They feel they must have someone to speak for them.

Because they are still in their infancy, they do not believe that anyone should invest.

Instead, they spend many months working on the project in hopes that someone will notice.

They realized that they hadn't prepared properly when they launched their campaign.

They end up with only a few donations, instead of thousands of dollars.

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove you from the list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened the star thefts? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
