FAQ

How many movies is Hollywood making in a single year?

Hollywood studios produce about 3,000 films each year. That's right, 3000!

Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions creating them. They also spend millions on marketing them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?

It is likely that the answer is between 200-300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

They are not all destined to be overlooked. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

Hence why don't more of these films be released? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? Because they are too expensive to make.

They would be released in theaters if they were less expensive to produce.

Here's where you find me. I can help you to find the best way to get your film into theaters.

I will show you how to maximize the return on your investment (ROI), and increase your chances of seeing your film in theaters.

Let's face the facts...

It can be difficult to get your movie into theaters. It is a complex, long-winded and complicated process that requires a lot of legalities.

It could also be costly before you even start.

You have a very short window in which to distribute your film.

There simply isn't enough time between when a film is finished, and its theatrical run begins.

What is the difference among a producer or distributor?

Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. The movie is distributed via a distributor. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors acquire movies from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.

Distributors have to negotiate with theater owners over where their movies should play. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.

What happens if my film does not perform well at the box-office?

A film that does poorly at the box-office could lead to many problems.

You might first decide to modify the way you market your movie.

Second, you might decide to rework the script.

Third, you might consider adding characters.

Fourth, you may decide to remove certain characters.

Fifth, you might decide to cut scenes.

Sixth, it's possible to decide that the film was too expensive.

Statistics

  • The percentage of black female characters went from 16 percent in 2017 to 21 percent in 2018. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • If we translate this to a percentage, we get 28%, so let's be generous and say that ‘Hollywood studios' release about ⅓ of the movies released in the U.S. and Canada each year. (glitteratilobotomy.com)
  • Women account for 51 percent of moviegoers. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • The author of the study noted that "The percentage of female speaking roles has not increased much since the 1940s when they hovered around 25 percent to 28 percent." (en.wikipedia.org)
  • In 2019, that percentage increased to 40 percent. (en.wikipedia.org)
