FAQ

How much of the box-office revenue is spent on marketing budgets?

Marketing budgets usually account for anywhere from 20%-40% of a film's budget. Marketing is crucial to any film's success.

Without good marketing, no one knows about your film. Without knowing about your film, no one wants to pay to see it.

Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo?

Crowdfunding platforms are fantastic because they allow you direct contact with potential investors.

Most filmmakers don’t believe they have the right to ask for money. They feel they need someone else who can vouch for them.

Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.

Instead, they spend many months working on the project in hopes that someone will notice.

Then, once they finally launch their campaign, they realize they didn't prepare properly.

Instead of thousands of dollar, they get a handful of donations.

How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?

It all depends on the length of your theatrical release.

If you're planning to run your film for less than two weeks, you only need to open one theater.

You will need at least two theaters if you plan to keep your film running for more than 2 weeks.

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame free?

Yes! To visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you don't need to pay anything. To take photos of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, however, you will need to apply for a permit. This costs $15 per person.

If you're planning on visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame, make sure to bring a valid ID.

You must accompany someone over 21 years of age if you are younger than 18.

The walkway can only be entered after 10 AM.

Once you are inside, you will not be able to leave the walkway without paying another time.

Cameras are not allowed on the walkway.

Why is Hollywood calling it Hollywood?

The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named in honor of its Los Angeles location, known at the time as "Hollywood".

Because it was such a fascinating place, people kept coming back for more. People would travel all the way from other countries to see what was happening.

Today, Hollywood is still very much part of our culture. There are movies, TV shows, music videos and commercials. These are all known as Hollywood.

What's the difference between an indie film and a foreign language film?

A filmmaker typically makes an independent film. This is because he or she makes every decision.

A foreign language film, on the other hand is usually produced by a larger production crew.

They often hire writers and actors from other nations.

You can also find professional translators to make the dialogue sound natural.

How many movies makes Hollywood each year?

Each year, Hollywood studios produce approximately 3,000 films. Yes, that's correct, three thousand!

Hollywood spends billions to advertise for these movies. They spend millions producing them. They spend millions to promote them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?

The answer is probably around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ other films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

Some of them may not be seen. Some of them were selected for distribution via Netflix Prime, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus, iTunes or Google Play.

We should see more of them. They are not being released in theaters. They're too expensive.

They would be released in theaters if they were less expensive to produce.

That's where I come in. I can help you to find the best way to get your film into theaters.

I'll show you how to maximize your return on investment (ROI) and increase your chances of seeing your movie in theaters.

Let's face the facts...

It can be difficult to get your movie into theaters. It is a complex, long-winded and complicated process that requires a lot of legalities.

It might also cost you a lot before you start.

It is even more difficult to distribute your film within a limited timeframe.

There is simply not enough time between the end of a film and when it goes on its theatrical run.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves took approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
