FAQ
What are the salaries of actors?
For independent films, the average salary for an actor is less than $100,000. The typical actor earns around $10,000 to $20,000 per movie. Many actors do not get any compensation. It depends on how successful an actor is. Some actors make millions while others struggle to find work.
Is Hollywood larger than Bollywood?
Film producers face the greatest challenge: how to get their movie noticed by the audience.
Problem is, there are many films competing for viewers' time and money. And if you don't stand out from the crowd, you won't have much chance of getting watched.
But what makes a movie popular? What makes an actor famous or a director? Or a director? It's not only talent, but also luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.
When it comes to movies, there are two main types. There are big-budget blockbusters as well as small independent productions. Blockbuster films can cost hundreds and millions of dollars to make and distribute. They are made by huge studios, who want to make sure their movies reach as many people possible. But big-budget films appeal more to older audiences.
Independent films are generally smaller-scale productions that may be financed by individuals or groups of investors. These films often focus on niche markets and cater to specific tastes. These films are usually easier to market and produce. This doesn't necessarily mean they are cheaper to watch. Many indie films can be difficult to find.
Is it possible to have both types of films? Do we need blockbuster movies, or smaller independent films? Hollywood is bigger than Bollywood, according to me. That's because Hollywood produces almost twice as many movies per year as India does!
Is Hollywood making more from international sales than domestic?
Yes, but it is only slightly. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. Domestic revenues made up 83%.
In fact, overseas markets account for over half of the world's population.
This means that people who may never have the chance to see a movie at home might still be curious about your movie.
What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?
The movie is created by a producer. The movie is distributed by a distributor. Producers can sell their movies directly to theaters, distributors, or other companies like Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.
Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. Distributors with multiple theaters are a good choice if your movie needs to be seen by as many people.
How many theaters will I need to return my investment?
It all depends on how long your theatrical release will be running.
If your film is going to be run for less then two weeks, one theater will suffice.
You will need at least two theaters if you plan to keep your film running for more than 2 weeks.
Who is Hollywood’s most famous actor?
Tom Hanks is the most highly-paid actor of all time. He earns a minimum of $25 million per movie. According to Celebrity Net Worth.
In second place is Will Smith, who earned $65 million over four years for his role in Independence Day.
Third place goes to Tom Cruise, who made $60 million over five years for playing Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible.
Fourth place goes the Daniel Craig, with $50 million in four years of playing James Bond.
Fifth place goes to Leonardo DiCaprio, who earned $45 million over five years for starring in Titanic.
Sixth Place goes to Brad Pitt. Brad earned $40 Million over six years playing Steve McQueen in 12 Years a Slave.
Robert Downey Jr. comes in seventh. He made $35 million for seven years playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, Iron Man.
Johnny Depp takes eighth place. He earned $30M over eight years playing Captain Jack Sparrow on the Pirates of The Caribbean series.
Ninth place goes out to George Clooney who made $25 million over nine-years for his role as Matt Damon in Good Night and Good Luck.
Angelina Jolie takes 10th place. She earned $20 million over 11-years for her roles as Tomb Raider's and Mr & Mrs Smith.
Why do so few independent films ever get distributed?
Most indie filmmakers assume that their films will get picked up by distributors.
They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.
However, this is seldom the case. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.
They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.
They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.
Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.
They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?
