FAQ

Why do so few independent films ever get distributed?

Indie filmmakers often assume that distributors will pick up their films.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

However, this is seldom the case. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.

They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.

They don't want these profits to be lost.

How much of the box-office revenue is spent on marketing budgets?

Marketing budgets account for approximately 20% to 40% of film budgets. This is because marketing is critical to the success and longevity of any film.

Marketing is the only way to make sure that your film is known. If people don't know anything about your film they won't pay to see it.

Is Hollywood making more from international sales than domestic?

Yes, but only a little. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. 83% of total revenue came from domestic sources.

More than half of the world’s population lives in foreign markets.

Many people will want to see your movie even though they may not have the opportunity to watch it at home.

Is Hollywood bigger than Bollywood?

Producers face the greatest challenge of making sure their movie is seen by viewers.

The problem is that there are many movies competing for people's time and money. You won't be noticed if your movie isn't unique.

But what makes a movie great? What makes an actor famous or a director? Or a director? You need to have talent but also luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.

Two main types exist when it comes down to film: large-budget blockbusters or small independent productions. Production and distribution of blockbuster movies costs hundreds of millions. These movies are often made by large studios that want their films to reach as many people as possible. But these big-budget films tend to appeal mainly to older audiences.

Independent films are generally smaller-scale productions that may be financed by individuals or groups of investors. These films are often targeted at niche markets and appeal to particular tastes. They are generally less costly to produce and market. They aren't always more affordable to watch, however. Most indie films are difficult to find.

Is it possible to have both types of films? What are the best movies for independent cinema? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood produces more movies than India every year.

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame a free thing?

Yes! You don't have to pay anything to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To take photos of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, however, you will need to apply for a permit. This costs $15 per person.

A valid ID is required if you are planning to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

If you are less than 18 years old, you must be accompanied with someone 21 years or older.

You cannot enter the walkway until 10 am.

Once you are inside, you will not be able to leave the walkway without paying another time.

Cameras are not permitted inside the walkway.

How many theaters would I need in order to get my money back?

One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.

You will need at least two theaters if you plan to keep your film running for more than 2 weeks.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove you from the list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Your family members can nominate you for a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why not just have stars on every street?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened to all the stars stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
