What is the difference among a producer or distributor?
The movie is created by a producer. The movie is distributed via a distributor. Distributors and theaters are two options for producers to sell their movies. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. Then they sell them to theaters, cable channels, or streaming services.
Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
Why aren't more independent films distributed?
Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.
However, this is seldom the case. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.
They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.
Or they delay the release date of a low-budget film until after the summer blockbuster season has begun.
Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.
They don't wish to lose those profits.
