How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
