FAQ
How many movies does Hollywood make a year?
Each year, Hollywood studios produce approximately 3,000 films. That's right, 3000!
Hollywood spends billions advertising these films. They spend millions producing them. They also spend millions marketing them. However, how many actually make it to the theaters?
It's probably between 200-300. The question is, what happens to all the other 2,700+ films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.
Some of them may not be seen. Some have been chosen for distribution via Netflix or Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and iTunes, Google Play and other platforms.
We should see more of them. Why are they not released in theaters? Because they are too expensive to make.
If they were more affordable to produce they would be released into theaters.
That's where I come in. I will assist you in finding the best possible method to release your movie in theaters.
I'll show you how to maximize your return on investment (ROI) and increase your chances of seeing your movie in theaters.
Let's face facts...
It can be challenging to get your film into theaters. The process can be complex and lengthy.
It might also cost you a lot before you start.
You have a very short window in which to distribute your film.
There simply isn't enough time between when a film is finished, and its theatrical run begins.
Hollywood is famous for what?
The simple answer was yes. It became famous because they were willing to take risks and do something different. They had the fortitude to make films that would remain in people's minds for years.
They were also willing to try out new ideas.
Do foreign sales make Hollywood more than domestic sales?
Yes, but not very much. In 2017, foreign revenues accounted for about 17% of total revenue. Domestic revenues accounted to 83%.
Over half of the world’s population is found in overseas markets.
This means that people who may never have the chance to see a movie at home might still be curious about your movie.
Why are there so few independent films that get released?
Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.
However, this is rarely the case. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.
They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.
They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.
Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.
After all, they don't want to lose out on those profits.
What is the cost of distributing a feature-length film?
A typical distribution deal will cost between $100,000-$150,000.
The average cost of a theater is approximately $10,000
Screens cost on average around $5,000
If you have 100 screens, your distribution fee will be about $500,000.
Distributor fees of $50,000 would apply if there are ten screens.
How many theaters do I need to make back my investment?
It depends on how many weeks you plan to make your theatrical production.
You only need one theater if your film will be shown for less than 2 weeks.
If your film is going to be screened for more then two weeks, you will need two theaters.

How To
How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.
To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name from this list.
How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?
Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.
Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?
The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.
What happened to the stolen stars? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
